You have surely read about Packet8 MobileTalk:
Packet8 MobileTalk
I think that could be done much better: By using Tpad's worldwide break-in numbers we could have the same features, but it could be much cheaper than Packet8's $9.99 per month.
$9.99 is only a good price if you make more than 1000 callthrough minutes per month. We Tpad users could have that much cheaper if you had a similar mobile phone application. It should have Tpad's break-in numbers stored and to complete the call we would use your company's cheap VoIP.
I guess MobileTalk from Packet8 works similar to the Wifimobile application (About) which sits in the background of your cell phone and only kicks in when you dial an international number. Only that Wifimobile tries to establish the call over Wifi while Packet8 establishes the call over callthrough. The callthrough numbers must be stored in the software, like it is at iSkoot.
It's a nice application. But soon somebody should launch something better where we could use our callthrough provider of choice, e. g. Tpad. Something like the “Mobile Call-Through Manager” from Runningmobile (Running Mobile Shop), but better, with many different callthrough numbers stored.
Tpad and Sipbroker should have that, because they have really a lot of international callthrough numbers. Much more than Jajah Direct.
I dream of an application that has callthrough numbers from all over the world stored in my cell phone and makes every call a local call.
Tpad can do that. |

I will definitely mention your idea to management, but early next year we are starting work on a Tpad Global Freephone Number (cant mention too much detail at the moment, but from what we have come up with so far it is looking pretty good).
We are aware of the German Running Mobile, but we will have to check the other sites out.
Thanks for your ideas, we respect what our forum members want and we will try our best to develope them. _________________ Tpad, Global ITSP VoIP Provider, Business Class IP PBX Hosted and Managed Telephony Solutions |

Markus Göbel's Tech News Comments:
Packet8 MobileTalk could be done much better
(Tuesday, November 27, 2007)
When Packet8 presented last week their service MobileTalk I was fascinated, but just for some seconds. Then I thought: What a lost opportunity! It could have been such a great application, if it 1.) hadn't such an expensive basic fee, 2.) wasn't bound to one particular VoIP provider and 3.) didn't work only in the US.

Again, another great blog by Markus !
I have sent the link to developement team to take a look.
At the moment we are promoting the idea of putting Tpad on WiFi Mobiles (Nokia N and E Series + others) via the inbuilt SIP Client. We have alot of intensive guides to show how to setup and we are in the middle of adapting an SDK Kit from Nokia so we can send custom SMS messages to auto configure Tpad SIP Setting on your Mobile.
We are also making our UK Office Site fully VoIP WiFi dependent so our staff will be using a combination of WiFi Mobile / SIP Devices to make free calls to each other. This is going to save us alot of money and we may even remove our main telephone switch once things are stable.
I have bought bought a number of WiFi Mobile Phones (from Nokia N95 for key staff to Pirelli DP-L10 for general staff). I must admit the Pirelli DP-L10 Phones for the price are really good in terms of ease of use (SIP Settings / WLAN Setup) and the call quality is great. _________________ Tpad, Global ITSP VoIP Provider, Business Class IP PBX Hosted and Managed Telephony Solutions |

What makes Tpad so different from all the other VoIP providers is your callthrough numbers: I am not lost when I am outside Wifi.
In lots of countries I can always call a local Tpad number and make my VoIP calls this way. That's cheaper than roaming and an important feature. That must also be the reason why Wifimobile recently introduced callthrough numbers. Although they are difficult to use, compared to their super easy Wifi application. Also Jajah surrendered and introduced the Jajah Direct callthrough numbers.
To make Tpad the coolest provider for mobile VoIP it would be helpful to make Wifi VoIP and callthrough a seamless experience. The way that Packet8 does it.
Today's fight is about bringing mobile phone users away from their cell phone networks and into your VoIP network. |
